Magnetic separation is an effective mineral processing method to separate the minerals based on the magnetism difference. Magnetic separators are widely used in resource recovery, wood industry, mining, ceramics, chemical, food, and other factories, suitable for wet magnetic magnetite, pyrrhotite, roasted ore, ilmenite, and other materials with a particle size of less than 3mm It is also used to remove iron from coal, non-metallic minerals, building materials, and other materials. It is one of the most widely used and highly versatile models in the industry.

1. Weak, medium, and strong magnetic separator

According to the magnetic field strength range value of the magnetic separator, the magnetic separator is divided into three types: weak magnetic field magnetic separator, medium magnetic field magnetic separator, and strong magnetic field magnetic separator. The weak magnetic field magnetic separator includes hundreds to 3000GS magnetic separator; the strong magnetic field magnetic separator generally refers to the 3000-6000GS magnetic separator, and the medium magnetic field magnetic separator refers to the magnetic separator with the magnetic field strength between the above two.

2. Dry-type magnetic separator and Wet-type magnetic separator

Dry magnetic separator refers to a magnetic separator that is relatively dry during the magnetic separation operation and can ensure a better beneficiation effect without adding water; while the wet magnetic separator must be mixed with water or other media. At the same time, a slurry is formed for magnetic separation. There are also differences in the structure of the two types of equipment. Dry magnetic separators generally do not need a tank to contain the slurry. The conveying of materials is done through a vibrating feeding device, and most of them are designed with dust-proof devices. The wet magnetic separator mostly has magnets to hold the slurry to ensure the fluidity of the material, and pumps are used to transport the material.

3. Permanent magnetic separator and electromagnetic magnetic separator

The permanent magnetic separator uses ferrite, neodymium iron boron, and other permanent magnetic materials to generate the working magnetic field. It has low energy consumption and only needs low energy consumption to drive the equipment. The electromagnetic magnetic separator uses electromagnets and screws. The wire tube and the permeable magnet are energized to generate a magnetic field, which requires high energy consumption to generate the exciting current.

4. Cylindrical / drum, roller, disc magnetic separator

According to the different structures of the main part of the magnetic separator, it can be divided into drum magnetic separator, roller magnetic separator, disc magnetic separator, ring magnetic separator, and rotor magnetic separator and belt magnetic separator. The machine is a cone-type magnetic separator, but these latter types of magnetic separators have been seldom used.

5. Constant, alternating, pulsating, rotating magnetic field magnetic separator

(1) Constant magnetic field magnetic separator. Use permanent magnet materials, electromagnets, solenoids, etc. with direct current as of the magnetic source, and the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field strength do not change with time.

(2) Alternating magnetic field magnetic separator. Use an electromagnet with alternating current as of the magnetic source. The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field strength change with time.

(3) Pulsating magnetic field magnetic separator. Use an electromagnet with both direct current and alternating current as of the magnetic source. The intensity of the magnetic field changes with time, but the direction does not change.

(4) Rotating magnetic field magnetic separator. The magnet is used as the magnetic source, and the magnetic poles rotate around the axis. The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field change with time.

6. Reversal magnetic separator, Non-reversal magnetic separator

The reversal magnetic separator is mainly used for the selection of magnetized minerals and materials with higher elemental iron content. The non-reversal magnetic separator is mainly used in the beneficiation of weakly magnetic minerals. It is compatible with weakly alkaline minerals that are less stressed by the magnetic field and difficult to recover.

In addition to the above list, there are many more. Although each manufacturer has model naming rules, they lack relevant standards. In the selection process of magnetic separators, most of them use the method of intersecting the naming standards of centralized magnetic separators.
