Recently, it was learned from the China Ocean Association that China's scientific expedition team discovered for the first time a large area of rare earth-rich deposits in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. This discovery has set a new record for the investigation and research of deep-sea rare earth resources in China and abroad. The scientific expedition team has preliminarily divided a rare earth-rich deposit area with an area of approximately 1.5 million square kilometers in the deep-sea basin of the southeastern Pacific Ocean.

The scientific expedition team was found during the first expedition of the fifth segment of the Global Ocean Comprehensive Scientific Survey and the fourth leg of China Ocean 46 Fleet. In this segment, Chinese scientists conducted a comprehensive marine scientific survey in the southeast Pacific for the first time.
